How to reach Elba Island

To reach the island of Elba it is necessary to arrive by car or train at the port of Piombino Marittima from where the ferries of the four shipping companies (Toremar, Moby Lines, Blu Navy, Corsica Ferries) depart. With just one hour of navigation you can reach the ports of Portoferraio, Cavo and Rio Marina. There is also a fast connection by hydrofoil, for passenger transport only, which reaches Cavo in 20 minutes, continues to Portoferraio, where it arrives after another 15 minutes.

To reach Piombino harbour:

- FROM NORTH From Milan Motorway A1 (Autostrada del Sole) take the A15 at Parma Ovest (Autocamionale Cisa) to join the A12 Genoa-Livorno, exit at Rosignano, continue on the SS Aurelia (direction Rome) to Venturina-Elba Island and from there follow the signs (PORT-Elba) up to the port of Piombino.

- FROM NORTH-EAST In Bologna take the A1 motorway towards Florence, arrived in Florence follow signs to Pisa-Livorno; exceeded Livorno exit at Rosignano , then continue on the SS Aurelia towards Grosseto-Rome to Venturina-Elba Island and then follow the signs (PORT – ferries Elba Island) until you reach the port of Piombino. Alternatively, the S.G.C. Florence-Pisa-Livorno: exit at Florence Signa and follow the SS to Collesalvetti, return to Highway to Rosignano, take the highway to Venturina- Elba Island to Piombino Marittima.

- FROM SOUTH Take the A12 Roma-Grosseto: SS1 Aurelia exit Venturina-Isola d ‘Elba and then follow the signs (PORT – ferries Elba Island) until you reach the port of Piombino.

On the island of Elba there are no methane or LPG distributors, for this reason LPG-powered cars must have the fuel tank almost empty and declare themselves to the crew. Ferries

There are four companies that reach the island of Elba: Moby Lines. Toremar, Blunavy and Corsica Ferries. The frequency of connections varies according to the time of the year, in the summer months numerous daily trips connect the port of Piombino with the island of Elba. The crossing takes about 60 minutes and the destination is Portoferraio (there are also rides on Rio Marina and Cavo). With the Corsica Ferries that travels only during the summer period it is possible to travel in about 40 minutes. With the car in tow, booking the ferry is always advisable, especially for the Easter weekend, on the holidays of April 25 and May 1, and on the weekends of July and August. And in the periods of greatest tourist influx, in addition to having the ticket already done, it is recommended to arrive at the port at least 40 minutes in advance to avoid queues and unpleasant delays. For more information click HERE 

Flights

The island of Elba has an airport in La Pila in the municipality of Campo nell'Elba, just 2 km from the town of Marina di Campo. The flights are carried out regularly by the company Silver Air which connects Pisa and Florence all year round. In summer the connections from Elba also extend to Milan Linate, Bologna and Lugano. Trains

In order to reach the port of Piombino by train it is necessary to get off at Piombino Marittima where there is a small railway station. The exit of the station allows you to easily reach both the maritime station and the embarkations themselves. Some lines have Campiglia Marittima as their terminus, from here it is necessary to change trains or take a bus that reaches Piombino Marittima station in 20 minutes.
