Archaeological Museum

Via del Pretorio 66

Created in 1968, it was the first archaeological museum born on the Island of Elba, before that of Portoferraio. It is in the place where the ancient praetorium was at the foot of the medieval fortress. The museum has primarily pre-historic and indigenous cultural material plus exhibits from the Etruscan and Roman eras.

The museum conserves archaeological material from pre-history to the Roman period that comes from digs in the central-eastern area of Elba and from the seabed around Elba.

Of importance are objects and various pieces found, in the wreck of a Roman ship of the 2nd century, in the waters of Capo S. Andrea and off Procchio. And above all the numerous finds from the Etruscan and Roman era are very interesting to see.
